PER DIEM SCHOOL NURSES – RNS AND LPNS

This position oversees (under the supervision of the School RN as applicable) the medical care and recordkeeping needs of the children enrolled in Hayes Day School during scheduled school hours in accordance with the NYS Education requirements and Cardinal Hayes Home for Children Policies and procedures. This position will work, based on School needs, Monday – Friday (8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.) during the school calendar, including a 6-week summer session.
Qualifications:
- Current license to practice as an RN/LPN in the State of New York.
- Preferred experience working with children with special needs.
- Basic Computer Skills to include Microsoft Office Products
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid Driver’s License preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Provide medical attention to the students.
- Provide supervision and training of staff to meet the needs of the students.
- Address issues relative to the health and safety of the students and the staff.
- Maintain close communication with the residential nurses, sharing and receiving current and accurate information on all health-related issues.
- Maintain communication with the parents of children who come from home to attend HDS.
- Assure that staff understand medical/health related issues and carry out proper procedure of delegated tasks, using hands-on instruction and regular visits to the classrooms.
- Provide support and counsel to classroom staff in the area of updating feeding procedures, therapies, and other medical issues that arise.
- Participate in regular meetings including but not limited to school staff meetings, treatment team meetings, and medication reviews when requested.
- Assess the condition of all students as needed.
