Corporate Leadership

Cardinal Hayes Home is sponsored by Franciscan Missionaries of Mary (FMM), a Roman Catholic order of women. The Corporation (Cardinal Hayes Home for Children at Millbrook, New York) is composed of five FMM: Sr. Noreen Murray, Provincial,  Sr. Barbara Dopierala, Sr. Pauline Gilmore, Sr. Betty Keegan, Sr. Sheila Lehmkuhle.  Mrs. Catherine Varano is Executive Director.  A Board of Directors, on which eighteen people serve, meets four times a year. These Directors, through their expertise in a variety of fields, provide guidance and counsel to agency administration. Included on the Board are professionals with backgrounds in banking and other areas of business, religion, teaching, social work, nursing, and human resources. Parents of a Cardinal Hayes resident also serve on the Board.

Affiliations and Accreditations

Cardinal Hayes Home for Children is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization incorporated under the Laws of the State of New York. The agency is affiliated with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York, and is a member of the National Catholic Development Conference (NCDC).

Cardinal Hayes Home for Children and Cardinal Hayes School for Special Children are listed in the Official Catholic Directory and have tax exempt status under a Group Ruling issued by the IRS for all organizations listed in the Official Catholic Directory (Kennedy Directory).

Cardinal Hayes is accredited by the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD); NYS Department of Social Services; NYS Education Department; NYS Department of Health. All programs of Cardinal Hayes are subject to periodic surveys by these organizations to assure compliance with their regulations.

Our agency meets all 20 Standards for Charitable Accountability with the New York Philanthropic Advisory Service (NYPAS) a program of the Better Business Bureau Foundation. We are an Accredited Charity allowing Cardinal Hayes Home to display the BBB Seal. This seal is another assurance to donors that Cardinal Hayes Home for Children meets the highest standards of accountability.
