At Hayes Day School, we care for, educate, and empower individuals with developmental disabilities.

The Occupational Therapist Assistant works under the guidance of the Occupational Therapist, performs all initial evaluations and periodic re-evaluations to establish/develop appropriate individualized educational plans in the least restrictive learning environment. This position is two days a week, the hours are flexible within the school day to meet the needs of the program. The school operates Monday – Friday (8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.) based on the school calendar, including a 6-week summer session.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a NYS Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant
  • Preferred experience working with children with special needs.
  • Valid Driver’s License preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic Computer Skills to include Microsoft Office Products

Responsibilities:

  • Provide treatment for students with multiple disabilities including physical and sensory disabilities.
  • Provide services in a flexible manner either pulling students out or pushing them into classroom activities depending on the unique needs of each student as well as the classroom.
  • Have computer skills and be able to provide distance learning activities and/or sessions.
  • Provide use of adaptive equipment as appropriate for the student
  • Provide training to classroom and team members as needed on the use of various adaptive equipment that assist with carryover into the classroom routine.
  • Consult with classroom staff regarding the implementation of occupational therapy carry over.
  • Collaborate with all team members in order to consider physical, medical, sensory, vision, communication and behavioral needs of each student and how these needs may affect his/her occupational therapy needs.
  • In conjunction with the OT, develop appropriate goals and objectives for each student‘s IEP.
  • Attend classroom team meetings, CSE meetings and residential meetings as needed.
  • Complete written work as required for progress notes, residential notes and annual notes as needed.
