SCHOOL OUTREACH WORKER

At Hayes Day School, we care for, educate, and empower individuals with developmental disabilities.

The school outreach worker is the liaison between school, home, and community for our specialized school. The school outreach worker will collaborate with the school administration as well as families and residential staff. The school outreach worker will serve as part of an interdisciplinary team to help students succeed.  The hours are Monday-Friday 8:30-3:30 based on the school calendar, including a 6-week summer session.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology or related field
  • Experience working with families and advocating for children in educational setting
  • Preferred experience working with children with special needs
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic Computer Skills to include Microsoft Office Products
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Bilingual Preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain ongoing communication with families, residential staff, school district personnel, colleagues, and administration.
  • Offer support and education for school staff to help them improve their understanding of the cultural, societal, economical, or other factors that can impact students’ education and behavioral tendencies.
  • Serve as a point person for community partnerships, projects, and programs.
  • Identify and coordinate vocational training opportunities for students.
  • Work with parents and guardians to help support their adjustment, learning, and development.
  • Participate in new student intake meetings.
  • Participate in internal and district meetings for students.
  • Serve as a co-chair on the school PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) team.
  • Handle sensitive situations maintaining dignity for those involved and exercising confidentiality and discretion.
