SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST

At Hayes Day School, we care for, educate, and empower individuals with developmental disabilities.

The Speech Language Pathologist will evaluate and provide treatment for students with multiple disabilities and disorders in communication and swallowing. This position is an exempt position scheduled during school hours. The school operates Monday – Friday (8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.) based on the school calendar, including a 6-week summer session.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a NYS certified Speech Language Pathologist and a Teacher of Students with Speech and Learning Disabilities.
  • Preferred experience working with children with special needs.
  • Valid Driver’s License preferred.
  • Basic Computer Skills to include Microsoft Office Products

Responsibilities:

  • Provide services in a flexible manner either providing one on one sessions or pushing into classroom activities depending on the unique needs of each student as well as the classroom.
  • Consult with classroom and residential staff regarding the implementation of speech, language and feeding goals.
  • Collaborate with all team members in order to consider physical, sensory, motor and behavioral needs of each student and how these needs may affect his/her communication.
  • Develop and implement the best method of alternative and augmentative communication systems including PECS, speech generating devices, sign and tactile systems.
  • Determine diet consistencies and safe feeding practices. Train staff in the use of compensatory strategies for each student as needed.
  • Develop appropriate goals and objectives for each student’s IEP.
  • Attend classroom team meetings, CSE meetings and residential meetings as needed
  • Conduct annual and triennial re-evaluations as needed.
