Teachers Aide (Hayes Day School)

Hayes Day School, located in Millbrook NY, currently has an opening for a Teacher’s Aide.

Hayes Day School provides services for children ages 5-21 who have multiple disabilities or autism. We currently have students from eighteen districts across the Hudson Valley. We provide a highly structured and supportive program for students who have medical, behavioral and/or academic needs.

Current position is needed to work Monday-Friday from 8:30am-3:30 pm including a 6 week summer session.

Pay $17.60 per hour

HS Diploma/GED required. Previous experience preferred but not required!

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist students in independent, small or large group activities as directed by the teacher.
  • Make or modify instructional materials as directed by the teacher.
  • Assist students with physical needs.
  • Observe & record student behaviors and progress as directed by the teacher.
  • Supervise students in and out of classroom.
  • Facilitate social interaction among students.
  • Help build student’s self-esteem.
  • Help with student behaviors in accordance with behavior Intervention plans.
  • Make displays and bulletin boards.
  • Support related services, i.e., positioning, equipment, communication supports & feeding guidelines.

  • Standing: Frequent

  • Walking: Frequent
  • Lifting: 25 – 50 lbs.
  • Pushing/Pulling: Frequent pushing and pulling
  • Bending/Squatting: Frequent bending and squatting
  • Reaching: Use of fingers, hands, arms continuously. Occasional overhead reaching.
  • Grasping/Squeezing: Frequently throughout the shift
  • Twisting: Frequently throughout the shift
  • Climbing: Occasionally ascend or descend stairs or ramps indoors or outdoors
  • Must assist individuals with toileting which includes assisting with hygiene and dressing of lower extremities.
  • Changing individuals on a changing table which requires lifting, pulling, and stretching.
  • Physically assist and/or provide contact guard for ambulatory individuals on stairs and on and off vehicles including during emergency evacuations.
  • Assisting/pushing individuals in wheelchairs
  • Securing individuals in wheelchair tie downs which involves bending, squatting, pushing, pulling, reaching and stretching as needed
